Unlike essential oils extracted through steam distillation, Narcissus Absolute is obtained using solvent extraction. This flower typically blooms in spring and belongs to the Amaryllis family, specifically the Amaryllidoideae subfamily. Most plants in this family produce yellow and white flowers with a narrow, flat base and are commonly found in the Mediterranean, China, and India. Narcissus Absolute is highly valued for its rich floral aroma with a narcotic, slightly animalic scent, making it a sought-after ingredient in luxury perfumery. It is often referred to as "Daffodil Perfume," with Grasse, France, being one of its leading producers.
 
The Absolute extracted from the Poet’s Daffodil, cultivated primarily in Holland and southern France, is one of the most prestigious perfume ingredients. It is occasionally used in high concentrations, such as 15–20%, in premium fragrances, including the iconic perfume Samsara. The scent of Narcissus Absolute shares similarities with jasmine and hyacinth, adding depth and sophistication to fine perfumes.
